Nearly twenty years ago Jon came to Maui from Ireland to work the summer months. He spent his days teaching surfing and sailing to guests at several hotels on the island, including the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa.
Our first stay as a family at the Hyatt was long overdue. We were so grateful to be invited to enjoy a vacation at the dog-friendly resort situated on 40 oceanfront acres on Maui’s Ka’anapali Beach.
Jack (my Yorkie) and I took early morning walks along the beach path while Jon, Kieran, and Ronan had slow mornings waking up. Jack brought a ton of smiles to the guests as he explored the lush, tropical grounds of the resort. He behaved so well around the birds and loved to look at the colorful koi fish in the ponds.
The property is home to 50 birds of 17 different species, including penguins, flamingos, swans, and parrots. Kieran and Ronan were absolutely entranced by the animals and enjoyed the penguin feeding experience.
The days were so sweet. We ate well, rested, swam, snorkeled, and watched fireworks from our room's lanai (thanks to a group in house celebrating their last night). The resort is so family-friendly and the boys were always enjoying something new. They loved learning to snorkel in the pools and ventured into the ocean with Jon and saw a green sea turtle.
I loved the view from our room. The early mornings were dewy and cool and the days warmed into sunny picture-perfect island paradise. Oh how I love our island Maui.
My favorite day was spent in the Pink Ocean Hale, an oceanfront cabana that served as our private oasis. We played cards and laughed until our bellies ached at the silliness of our two boys.
We at lunch and Jon and I enjoyed cocktails. All the while, Jack was with us napping in between walks along the beach path.
Our view from the hale was of the neighboring island of Lanai. The sun set and painted the sky pink, orange and purple. It was close to perfect, in my book.
We look forward to returning to the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa soon. This Valentine's Day they are offering low rates for Kama‘aina, February 13, 14 and 15th! To book your reservation visit http://bit.ly/kamaainavalentine
